Riding pleasure

Photography

Always proves to me that you don’t have to be good at something to enjoy it. Much fun can be had just trying.

The pleasure in riding on two wheels is the constant engagement with the road.

Driving a car provides little or no real engagement with the driving experience. The cocoon-like interior of the car lures one into a warm, comfortable and false sense of security. Until the car starts to skid one has no idea that the road surface is slippery. The car in front is indicating left, then turns right as one is starting to overtake. The driver of the car in the right hand lane at the roundabout turns left as one  moves forward to go straight on. You know it happens on a daily basis. When riding a bike each of the observations I have just made will either kill or seriously injure the rider. So how does one stay alive? Simply by being fully engaged with one’s environment. Slight erratic movements of the vehicles around one give subtle clues as to what is about to happen.

Nevada 750

Simply great fun but is an around town bike.

The bike was really unstable until I change the tyres from factory issue to Bridgestone, front and back.

Had a few factory build quality issues which were sorted under warranty.

The riding position is rather high, good for heavy traffic work but not for long distances.

It came with pannier boxes which harmonised well with the style of the bike.

Nice smooth pull from 2k to 6k revs.

Shaft drive is a must for any bike I ride - I seem to be able to stretch any chain within a fortnight.

Griso SE 1200

I guess the Griso 8V SE will be my last bike before they tell me I am too old to be out there.

Travel

For me it is about how other people live and overcome the difficulties of their particular environment.
